Charlie Adam takes career next step as Rangers favourite links up with Vincent Kompany's new club

Charlie Adam has taken up a coaching role with English Championship side Burnley as one member of Rangers' 2008 UEFA Cup final squad ponders the next step of his career.

The midfielder was a key man for Dundee last season but couldn't stop them from heading straight back to the Championship after their 2021 promotion to the Premiership. He has been deciding over the summer whether to keep going or hang up the boots in favour of coaching, and seems to be leaning towards the latter.

Lancashire Live has reported a photo of him in a Burnley tracksuit as he gains coaching experience at the side managed by Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany. The 36-year-old has not been officially appointed to a role with the Clarets just yet it is claimed, but he is gaining some experience at Turf Moor at U21s level alongside Andy Farrell, who is currently taking the team.

Usual boss Mike Jackson is currently working with the senior squad to help Kompany after his summer appointment and Adam has 'stepped in to fill the void.'

Adam made his senior debut for Rangers in 2004 and spent time on loan at Ross County and St Mirren before featuring in the squad that reached a European final 14 years ago.

He told former club Stoke City's media team of his plans this summer: "If nothing comes in I'll retire and go into coaching and one day I want to be a manager. I'm working towards that."
