Charlie Adam piles the pressure on Hearts as he weighs up move to Championship title rivals Dundee

Charlie Adam insists the pressure is all on Hearts as he contemplates a move to Championship title rivals Dundee.

The former Rangers, Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder is weighing up an offer from his boyhood club ahead of their promotion push, although the Dens Park club are expected to be in the play-offs at best.

The pair meet on the opening day of the Championship season at Tynecastle next month, and while Adam’s capture would be a real coup for James McPake, the 34-year-old still sees Robbie Neilson’s team as overwhelming favoruites for the league title.

“All the pressure’s on Hearts,” he told BBC Scotland. “They’re coming down from the Premier League and they’re the favourites for the league, there’s no hiding from it.

“They have a fantastic support, Ann [Budge] has obviously put a lot of money into bringing in somebody like Craig Gordon, who’s an experienced goalkeeper and they’ve made a few good signings as well.

“So they’re going to be favourites, but at Dundee it's an opportunity to go to a club with the young players there, I can go in and try and help them and give them my experience.

“The discussions are taking time and we’re talking regularly and we’ll see how the deal will end up.

“It’d be good for me personally but it would also be good for the club and the supporters if we can get a lift.

“It’s a shorter season at 28 games and it’ll be a tough season in a tough league to get out of.

“But hopefully when the season starts we’ll be good enough to be challenging.”
