Charlie Adam makes Rangers and Dave King prediction as Green Brigade example proves fan fury can subside

Former Rangers star Charlie Adam has stated Rangers' involvement in the Sydney Super Cup will see the club reap several long term benefits.

And he insists the current furore won't last forever - citing the Green Brigade as an example after their early season fury over former police chief Bernard Higgins' potential appointment subsided.

Dundee captain Adam also drew comparisons to English rivals Manchester United and Liverpool's involvement in off-season overseas tournaments.

Sections of the Ibrox faithful have protested in recent matches with tennis balls and other objects causing delays in the match against Dundee on Sunday.

The heat was turned up further when fan group Club 1872 fired their own statement on the situation on Tuesday before Rangers responded in turn.

Adam told PLZ Soccer: "The financial gains for Rangers are there. I just don't think the supporters are happy with the way it came out - Ange Postecoglou's return home and things like that.

"They think that Celtic have got one over them. They have obviously vented their fury at the games the last couple of weeks against Dundee throwing tennis balls, ticker tape and whatever.

"But if you think you've got the money that's supposedly reported as more than you can get for winning the league, you have to look at that as a business and say 'hold on a minute, if we want to progress this football club, move forward, bring in the players we think are quality enough to get us into the Champions League - we have to do this'.

"If Manchester United or Liverpool go and play in America and they get big finances, I'm sure Rangers and Celtic should be able to do that because both clubs will get financially rewarded and be in a better state going forward for the future."

Adam then gave his verdict on what's going on inside his former club amid the letters, statements and mass protests - stating the Green Brigade's early season antics as an example of how things can change quickly in football.

"I'm only saying from the outside what I see," he added. "These people that are involved are trying to generate as much funds for Rangers to move forward in the best possible way.

"How that looks to me is Dave King isn't happy. He walked away from the club a couple of years ago, before they won the title, and he wants back in.

"Douglas and the board aren't letting him back in. So he is trying to get as many supporter groups as possible to vent a little bit of a problem with the board and the board have come out and said what they've got to say.

"Unless you are inside the club, it's hard to really comment on what's actually going on. Like anything, fans are always not happy when things are not going well.

"Listen Rangers are doing well in Europe but they are behind Celtic in the league and we seen earlier in the season the Green Brigade were hammering on the Celtic board because things weren't going well.

"It's all changed now. Everything seems alright, rosy in the garden."
