Charli XCX to create and release new album How I'm Feeling Now during coronavirus lockdown

Charli XCX will create a new album “from scratch” during the coronavirus lockdown.

The English pop favourite, who released her latest album Charli in 2019, has set a release date of May 15 for the project, which currently has the working title How I’m Feeling Now.

“For me, staying positive goes hand in hand with being creative,” she said in a message to fans. “And so that’s why I’ve decided that I’m going to use this isolation time to make a brand new album from scratch.”

The album will be “very DIY”, with Charli XCX planning to make all the music, artwork and videos using the tools she has in her own home.

Screenshotted text messages, posted to her Twitter, confirmed that Charli XCX was planning on releasing her first single, called Forever, on April 10 “or more realistically April 13”.

Demos and a capella recordings will be released throughout the process, as will text conversations with collaborators and films of Charli XCX working in the studio.

Fans have been asked to get involved with the process too, with Zoom video conferences to gather ideas and an email address for "beats and references”.

Charli XCX had already been keeping herself busy during the lockdown with a series of Instagram Lives, featuring the likes of Diplo and Christine and the Queens, covering everything from art classes to make-up tutorials and workouts.
