Didn’t you know that Charli xcx is an east London girlie now? Snaps from the pop megastar’s extremely east London wedding — Lime bikes and all — have been going viral since the ceremony on Saturday, with many remarking on how satisfyingly unremarkable it all was.
In the era of celebrity super-weddings, Charli’s way of celebrating her marriage to The 1975 drummer George Daniel was a breath of fresh air (interspersed by some cigarette smoke, naturally).
But that’s who she is. The Brat summer originator hails from Essex and has long lived between Los Angeles and London, though she’s spent more time in The Big Smoke since the start of her relationship with Daniel, around March 2022. The pair now primarily reside together in east London.

The A-list couple decided to tie the knot locally, surprising passers-by as they descended the steps at Hackney Town Hall on Saturday, July 19. Charli wore a mini dress by Vivienne Westwood and carried a bouquet by London-based florist Hamish Powell.

After the pair were united in Holy Bratrimony, Charli and George treated their wedding guests to a meal at Italian restaurant Dalla in Hackney Central. Its menu includes seabass crudo, charred octopus, traditional ragu, tiramisu and natural wines. It was here that the happy couple were spotted having a quiet cigarette outside, accompanied by a couple of distant Lime bikes.
Next, the celebrations moved to Ellie’s bar, a new opening in Dalston that offers £8 margaritas “all day and all night”. Guests like ShyGirl, Aidan Zamiri and Ross MacDonald (George’s The 1975 bandmate) drank margs and Martinis while smoking Vogues, which were offered on a silver platter.

“Charli's wedding reception was the epitome of Brat,” a source told The Sun. “Her and George wanted to keep it very cool, so they shunned cars and walked down Hackney High Street to get to Dalla. The restaurant had closed for them and they had a massive family style meal with loads of pasta and champagne. People walking past were stunned when they saw Charli and George having a cheeky pre-dinner cigarette outside.”
When not in wedding mode, Charli is known for frequenting Artwords Bookshop on Broadway Market, though she’s far more likely to be spotted at The Castle Cinema in Clapton. “To be honest, I don’t read loads, I’m more of a movie watcher,” she told Billboard.

Charli has become well-known for her Letterboxd habits and often logs multiple films a day. “They play great movies, they have really good taste,” she has said of The Castle. “I watch a lot of movies, that is where I find a lot of inspiration and get my creative juices flowing.”
If you wish you could dress a little more Charli (who doesn’t), head to Nordic Poetry on Bethnal Green road. It’s a vintage shop full of designer picks which is consistently hailed as one of London’s best designer vintage stores. Charli was recently photographed having a fitting there, followed shortly by her bestie Gabbriette (Matty Healy’s girlfriend), so you’ll be in good company.

When it comes to restaurants, Charli has shared her fondness for the two-Michelin-starred Gymkhana in Mayfair. “My family’s Indian, it’s really hard to please them at an Indian restaurant but they love Gymkhana,” she told Topjaw in 2024. She also mentioned cult Highbury and Islington Italian restaurant Trullo and Brat (of course) in Shoreditch as her two other London restaurant highlights.

For partying in London, Charli frequents legendary Soho nightclub Trisha’s. “Really old school, good doorman,” she explained, “Anthony Bourdain used to go there, they say.” She’s also known to drink at east London cocktail bar Satan’s Whiskers, get her coffee at Dark Arts in Homerton and eat her breakfast at Allpress in Dalston.

And no true London Queen is without a Sunday roast spot. Charli’s is The Pig and Butcher in Angel. “Upstairs you feel like you’re in someone’s house, whereas downstairs you feel like you’re in a pub,” she told Topjaw. It’s a fancy choice, as pub roasts go, with up-market mains (porchetta for £25, lamb shoulder for £56, breaded celeriac for £21, etc) and elaborate sides such as Marcona almonds and Cantabrian boquerones. But it comes Charli xcx approved, so it’s probably worth the price tag.
