Charli XCX's innovative seating arrangement makes her living room look massive yet cozy – it's a feat to be replicated

A vast living room is a joy to decorate; however, it can also be a challenge. How can a communal space be adequately filled without cluttering it? The solution, according to Charli XCX: conversational seating.

As posted to her designer, Tim Hirschmann's Instagram page, the living space in her (former) Tudor-style home features an assortment of antique sofas and accent chairs, which create variety and visual interest among the wood-beamed ceilings and white walls.

While the sofas and chairs are spread out, the natural wood coffee table and large rug tie the space together, making for a masterclass in conversational seating.

According to experts, incorporating conversational seating in a dining room is one of the best ways to make any space feel even larger than it actually is. All that's required is some strategic furniture placements.

'Position your corner sofa away from the dining table, to create conversation areas,' suggests a representative from M&S Home and Furniture.

'Make sure to always keep the sofa off the wall. This is often referred to as ‘floating furniture’.

They continue, 'In an already generously sized room, bringing your seating furniture towards the centre of the space can immediately create the illusion of added floorspace. Tucking a large rug underneath the corner sofa will also help to break the space off, separating this cosy space from the rest of the room, whilst still allowing for the practicality of an open-plan interior.'

Consider accessorizing with different cushions and chair patterns to maintain visual appeal; Charli's living room is an excellent example, with gold, green, and florals all making appearances.
