Charley Hull has withdrawn from the Evian Championship after collapsing after a tee shot during her first round. The Englishwoman was taken from the course at the French major on a medical cart on Thursday morning.
Reports from the event said Hull sat by the side of a bunker on the 3rd hole, clearly looking unwell. Having taken a 15-minute medical break, she hit her tee shot on the 4th and slumped to the ground.
She duly withdrew from the tournament, with broadcasters reporting the world No 19 had been suffering from an unspecified virus. Hull’s management has been contacted for an update on her situation.
The 29-year-old had started her round in the French mountains on the 10th and, somewhat remarkably, was one under par before this scenario unfolded.
It now remains to be seen whether Hull will recover in time for the final major on the women’s calendar, the British Open at Royal Porthcawl from 31 July. She is due to tee up in the Scottish Openon 24 July.

Hull remains without a major win to her name but tied 12th in each of her last two appearances. She shared third at the Evian in 2022.
Leona Maguire shot a 65 to claim an early share of the Evian lead. The English amateur Lottie Woad’s 68 continued her excellent recent form. Woad will earn a LPGA Tour card if she finishes in the top 25 in France.
