Charley Casserly sees Giants taking Dwayne Haskins in 2019 NFL Draft

Add NFL Network’s Charley Casserly to the long list of experts and draftniks who believe the New York Giants will take Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins in Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Casserly released his latest mock draft earlier this week and right there at No. 6 was Haskins, whom he had the Giants swiftly swoop up for the start of his year of learning behind two-time Super Bowl champion, Eli Manning.

No. 6: New York Giants – Dwayne Haskins

School: Ohio State | Year: Sophomore (RS)
Spends a year (or less) learning behind Eli Manning. Big upside.

To take Haskins at No. 6 overall in this mock, the Giants passed over offensive tackles Cody Fields and Jonah Williams, who have each been projected to New York more frequently in recent weeks and may ultimately prove to be more valuable to the team.

At this point, evaluating mock drafts that have Haskins going to the Giants is like listening to a broken record. And that’s not Casserly’s fault, it’s just the most commonly accepted potential reality for a team in legitimate need of a young quarterback. However, just as it was in 2018, there’s no guarantee that’s how general manager Dave Gettleman is going to go once Big Blue is on the clock.

Haskins has some obvious upside, but there are also some very real concerns, including the limited time he’s spent as a starter.
