Charles Ingram says cat was shot after shocking Quiz scene shows animal dying

Charles Ingram has confirmed that it was his cat, not his dog, who was shot after he was accused of cheating to win the top prize on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

New ITV drama Quiz tells the story of how Ingram won Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, the couple’s trial and the events afterwards.

Viewers were shocked by a scene in the mini-series in which Ingram’s wife Diana (Sian Clifford) and their two children come home to find blood on the floor.

After Diana tells the children to go upstairs, she finds Charles (Matthew Macfayden) holding their dog Buffy, who had been shot with an airgun.

But according to Ingram, Buffy was a cat and not a dog, and in fact survived the shooting.

When a fan of Quiz asked Ingram on Twitter about the incident, he answered: “Cat. She was shot by an air gun. Buffy did survive, after an operation.” He added that the writer of the series James Graham “probably didn’t know that she had survived”.

Since the show came out, Ingram has tweeted a lot of praise for Quiz, calling the show “terrifyingly accurate” and “excruciatingly enjoyable”.

Ingram did not, however, have anything positive to say about the real-life original host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Chris Tarrant, who he said “suffers from delusions of grandeur” in an extraordinary Twitter rant.
