Charles Ingram breaks silence to praise Quiz as his Millionaire cheating is put back in spotlight

The man at the centre of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's headline-hitting cheating scandal has reacted to it being thrust into the public eye again in ITV drama Quiz.

It was in 2001 that Charles Ingram followed wife Diana into the Millionaire hot seat and went onto claim the jackpot, despite appearing absolutely clueless to many of the questions put to him by host Chris Tarrant.

After Charles' win a sound technician alerted producers to suspicious coughing from the studio, with Tecwen Whittock, sitting in the Fastest Finger First seats, coughing at key moments during filming to signify the right answers to Ingram, including the £1m question.

Charles, Diana and Whittock were found guilty of "procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception".

Both the Ingrams and Whittock were each given suspended prison sentences - the Ingrams were sentenced to 18 months and Whittock was sentenced to 12 months.

The final episode of Quiz on Wednesday will focus on the trial and Charles has shocked viewers by PRAISING the programme.

He tweeted: "WOW.The cast, the story, the scenes, simply brilliant. Terrifyingly accurate and oh yes, horribly cringeworthy. Floored by the pure talent on show tonight. Well done too to @ITV. Gutsy."

The former Major also posted about Matthew Macfayden's portrayal of him, writing: "Totally. Matthew is so damn good-looking I can’t sleep. Trying to kid myself I looked like that 19 years ago but failing miserably. Diana called me ‘Matthew’ as I was brushing my teeth."
