Charlene White stops Loose Women to deliver 'heartbreaking' news as ITV co-stars react

Charlene White called a brief halt to Thursday's Loose Women, to deliver some sad breaking news to the panel and viewers at home, after it was confirmed that much loved actress and MP Glenda Jackson had died.

The latest episode of the ITV lunchtime discussion got off to a light hearted start, when panellist Denise Welch was made the centre of attention, thanks to the announcement that she will play The Queen in Diana the Musical, when the Broadway show arrives in London for a one-off performance later this year. Denise was then put on the spot over an unexpected 'mistaken identity' prank she found herself caught up in at the start of this, before the panel then discussed if sharing grief helped them cope with the loss of a loved one.

The chat was sparked by footage of the parents of the students killed in Nottingham in the early hours of Tuesday, delivering speeches at a memorial in their honour, with Denise talking about how she shared a lot with colleagues and the public, when her dad Vin died in 2021, before Charlene spoke about the long period of mourning her family had when they lost her mum.

The presenter then had the job of announcing Glenda's death to Loose Women viewers, with her agent having released a statement just minutes earlier. Pausing the show as it returned from the first ad break, Charlene said: "We do have some sad news about Oscar winning actress and former MP, Glenda Jackson, as she passed away at the age of 87. Her agent said in a statement that the actress died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London, this morning, after a brief illness and with her family by her side."

After reading the statement, Charlene added: "Words cannot underestimate just how impactful Glenda was, especially as an actress," as Denise replied: "The most incredible actress," as she continued: "Without wanting to name drop; we do have a lovely friendship with Michael Caine and his wife Shakira and Michael did the most recent film he's done at 89-years-old, with 87-year-old Glenda Jackson and they both said that at that old age, it's the best film they've ever, ever done. So it'll be an incredible legacy to see that."
