Charity's left over cash to goes to West Lothian hospital

Staff at St John’s Hospital received a donation of almost £30,000.

£29,486 was handed over to the hospital from the Friends of St John’s charity after they ceased operating.

Murray Speirs and Agnes McKenna from the charity said they wanted to make sure that all the remaining donations went to a good cause and handed over the balance to a charity fund which will benefit patients and carers.

The money will go to The Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation, which is the official charity for NHS Lothian and holds funds for hospitals and services across the region, from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General and St John’s.

Agnes Ritchie, associate nurse director at St John’s, accepted the cheque on behalf of the foundation.

She said: “We are very lucky to have a supportive network of friends and families who are looking to give back to the hospital in whatever way they can.

“This money will go into our St John’s Fund and will be spent improving the experience of patients and carers at St John’s.”
