Charity posts 'heartbreaking' pictures of Edinburgh greyhounds kept in cages

An animal cruelty charity has slammed the treatment of greyhounds in Edinburgh after sharing pictures of dogs kept outside in a cage.

One Kind shared images obtained by campaigners Say No To Greyhound Racing In Scotland, calling the pictures "heartbreaking."

According to Say No To Greyhound Racing In Scotland, the pictures taken show Seafield greyhounds in Edinburgh, where they are kept before racing at Thorton in Fife.

Say No To Greyhound Racing In Scotland said: "This is the Seafield greyhounds in Edinburgh.

"These photos were taken at lunchtime today, the temperature is currently 14° and it has been raining steadily for most of the day.

"Bear in mind also that this ‘kennel’ is directly opposite the sea where it blows a gale most of the time.

"These poor dogs race at the flapper track at Thornton in Fife and every authority tells us there is nothing to be done for them.

"They have shelter and water.

"The law in Scotland that allows dogs to be kept in these conditions is nothing short of disgraceful.

One Kind an animal cruelty charity in Edinburgh also slammed the images saying: "Heartbreaking images taken of greyhounds used for racing that are kept in outdoor enclosures in Edinburgh.

"Images taken by Say No To Greyhound Racing In Scotland, who do excellent work to ban greyhound racing. This is legal. Pls retweet with the hashtag #BanGreyhoundRacing.

Edinburgh Live has reached out to Seafield dogs and the RSPCA for comment.
