Challenging MND's Founder, Alex Gibson has been select as one of 500 Coronation Champions. He was nominated by charity CEO Liane Iles.
A total of 500 volunteers will be chosen as Coronation Champions and will receive a specially designed, official Coronation Champions pin and a signed certificate from Her Majesty The Queen. There will also be opportunities for some of the Coronation Champions to attend one of the official Coronation celebrations, such as the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or a Coronation Garden Party.
Since being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2019, Alex has made it his mission to ensure people living with MND feel supported, seen and empowered.
Alex has completed a series of challenges and, this year, he will add two more feats to the list: a 24 hour endurance cycle in July, and a 24 hour endurance swim in December. His accomplishments so far include:
Walked The Essex Way, approx 102 miles in one weekend
Cycled between the Three peaks of the U.K. (460 miles) and walked to the top of each summit
Lifted 1 million kilograms in a 24 hour period
Broke two Guinness World Records as he Pedalled the length of the Thames (125 miles) in a 4 man Pedalo… before repeating the event again his World Record was broken!
A double marathon
Cycling the length of the Outer Hebrides (186 miles) on a tandem bike in 23 hours – also a record
Climbing to the height of Everest (8,800 m) up the iconic Cheesegrater building in London – a total of 52 floors x 47 ascents taking 53 hours!
