Charing Cross flat fire sees two rushed to hospital

Two people have been rushed to hospital after an overnight fire at a flat in Charing Cross.

Four fire crews raced to the scene at Dorset Square in Glasgow shortly before 4am after the blaze took hold of the ground floor.

Other flats within the five-storey building were evacuated.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 9.20am this morning.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "We were alerted at 3.59am on Wednesday, April 29 to reports of a fire within a block of flats on Dorset Square, Glasgow.

"Four fire appliances and one aerial vehicle were mobilised to the scene, where crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished a fire within a ground floor property of a five-storey tenement building.

"Two female casualties suffering moderate smoke inhalation were passed into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service, and transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

"A number of properties within the building were evacuated, and firefighters worked to ensure there was no fire spread before ventilating areas affected by smoke.

"The last fire appliance left the scene at 9.20am."
