‘Charging a cleaning fee when they need to clean up is diabolical’: Woman books Miami Airbnb. Then she goes inside

In a viral TikTok, @morahluv says she had the worst Airbnb experience ever during her stay in Miami.

‘Where the freak is Ashton Kutcher?’

She says the problems started “off rip” as she enters the house.

“Look at the ceiling. The ceiling’s about to cave in,” she says. There is a large rectangular section of the ceiling that is bulging as if there is water damage. “Look at the freaking air vent, y’all,” she continues, showing a dusty vent. “And then they had the audacity to charge us a $250 cleaning fee.”

She then walks into the kitchen. “Look at the stove. Please be for real,” she says while showing that the stove’s glass top is cloudy. “Look at,” she adds, showing the drip tray under the water dispenser in the door of the fridge, which has little white specks. “Please be for real. Like, I feel like I’m on ‘Punk’d’ right now.”

@morahluv turns her attention to a wall in front of the primary bedroom that has a horizontal line of holes in it above the doorway. “What the hell is this, y’all?” she asks before pointing the camera at another dirty vent. As she walks toward the bedroom, she passes by the “king bathroom.”

“Look at the bottom of the door,” she says, pointing out damage. “Look at the floor,” she adds, pointing to the tile floor that has black specks on it. “I don’t even live like this in my own house. Why would I wanna come to someone else’s house and stay like this?”

@morahluv points out that a bathroom advertised as full-sized is only a half bath with the toilet in another room across the hall. She shows damaged blinds in the room with the toilet and then moves into the primary bedroom, where she points out water damage on the ceiling. @morahluv also shows a large dark stain on the wall and a cobweb in the upper left corner of the room. “This has got to be a joke,” she says.

While she does not show it, she says the pool is cloudy. The TikToker then moves into another bathroom, which she says “smells like [urine].” The bathroom also has damaged and “filthy” blinds.

She walks into another room, points out the walls and damaged blinds, and says, “Everything just look dingy.” In another room, one of her companions points out a stain on the comforter, and the woman recording points out a stain on a throw pillow, saying someone left their “children” on it.

Ultimately, the woman says she and her family would not be staying at the lodging.

The TikToker says she will attach photos of what the listing looks like, but she does not do so in the initial video or the follow-up. She says in the follow-up that Airbnb contacted her regarding the video, but does not provide further details.

‘It’s giving “Barbarian” movie vibes … Run’

In the comments section, viewers agreed that the state of the house was unacceptable. Some urged her to get her money back. Others pointed out that this is why they stay at hotels. One even said they booked the exact house and had the same experience.

One viewer said, “Airbnb’s need to have some type of inspection process because this is ridiculous. I’ve seen it too often.”

A second said, “OMG, rented this same place last year and had the same experience!! I’m shocked they’re still letting them use this house for bookings!! Thank god we got a refund!!!”

Another wrote. “The closed off door in the bedroom would’ve been an ABSOLUTE no for me. It’s giving kidnapped.” Importantly, many Airbnbs have a closed-off closet where owners may keep valuables.

What do I do if my Airbnb is dirty?

On its website, Airbnb states, “If you arrive at your Host’s place and find that it’s not clean, you have 72 hours from the time you notice the issue to report it to your Host or directly to Airbnb. Start by documenting the problem with photos or video.”

It notes that your Host may fix the issue or give you a partial refund.

“If your Host can’t resolve the cleanliness issue, let Airbnb know within 72 hours of discovering the issue. It may be covered under Airbnb’s Rebooking and Refund Policy—you may be able to receive a full or partial refund, or get help finding a similar place to stay, depending on availability at comparable pricing,” Airbnb adds.

In an update video, the creator revealed how Airbnb refunded her the money “instantly.” A spokesperson for Airbnb also informed the Mary Sue that they also issued her a coupon for a future Airbnb stay.

The Mary Sue contacted @morahluv via TikTok comment and direct message.
