Charges over police protest bomb threat

A Victorian man allegedly rang a Melbourne police station and threatened to throw bombs at officers. (AAP)

A Victorian man is accused of ringing a suburban Melbourne police station and threatening to throw bombs at officers during an upcoming protest.

The 48-year-old man was arrested at his home in The Basin, east of Melbourne, and later charged with making threats to kill, inflict serious injury and to assault a police officer.

Boronia police allege he made the calls to the station on Monday and threatened to bomb officers during a planned protest in Melbourne's CBD.

He was released on bail to face Ringwood Magistrates Court early next year.
