A second man has been charged in connection with the historical sexual and indecent assaults of students at two Bathurst high schools.

The 59-year-old man was arrested at Bathurst Police Station on Monday afternoon and charged with multiple child sex abuse offences.

He'll face Bathurst Local Court on Thursday.

The first man, 85-year-old former priest Robert Maximus Blumenthal, was arrested at his Randwick home last Thursday.

Blumenthal is charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 and three counts of sexual intercourse with a person between 10 and under 16 who was under authority.

He remains before the courts.

NSW Police in 2008 began investigating the alleged child abuse incidents which occurred in Bathurst between 1960 and 1993, and last year received a report of a nine-year-old boy's sexual assault in the mid-1980s.

That incident resulted in the arrest of the two men.
