Charges over alleged baseball bat attack at Blackalls Park

Police have charged two people after a man was allegedly hit with a baseball bat at Blackalls Park on Saturday afternoon.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District have been told four men were walking along a path near Greenway Reserve about 4pm when two youths on an unregistered motorcycle passed them.

Police said the older men yelled at the young riders to get off the path and continued walking.

Soon after, the men were at the intersection of Aldon Crescent and Narara Street when they heard the motorcycle return.

Police were told the pillion passenger got off the bike and allegedly struck one of the men with a baseball bat before the pair rode away.

The 69-year-old man sustained a serious wound to his left arm and a fractured left elbow.

He is being treated at John Hunter Hospital.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old at a home nearby.

They were taken to Toronto Police Station and were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as traffic offences.

They were refused bail to appear in Toronto Local Court on Sunday.
