Charges laid, officer out of hospital after Toronto confrontation

A MAN is due to face court on Monday after an alleged road rage incident in which two police officers were hospitalised with stab wounds at Toronto.

Police said late on Sunday night that one of the officers had been released from hospital following the confrontation in which witnesses helped police make an arrest.

The 25-year-old man, from Sydney's Bronte, was taken to Toronto police station.

Overnight he was charged with two counts of wound with intent to resist arrest, destroy or damage property, common assault and breach of bail for drug offences.

He was refused bail and will face Newcastle Local Court on Monday.

Parts of The Boulevarde and Cary Street remained closed overnight as police examined multiple crime scenes.

The incident has sparked calls from the officers' union, the Police Association of NSW, for those proven to have attacked police to face "the maximum weight of the law".
