A MAN who allegedly assaulted a Hunter police officer has been given conditional bail to face court next month.
Lake Macquarie Police District officers were called to a Freemans Drive caravan park at Freemans Waterhole about 10.15pm on Easter Monday in relation to an unrelated report of a stolen caravan.
Police will allege that one of the officers was attacked unprovoked by a 31-year-old man in the course of his inquiries.
"The man allegedly ran directly into the officer, before punching and kicking him," police said in a statement.
"Police used a taser to detain the man and he was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station, where he was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics."
The 31-year-old was subsequently charged with offences including breach of a community corrections order, assault police, resist arrest and possess prescribed restricted substances.
The man faced Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday and is expected to appear at Wyong Local Court on Wednesday May 13.
