Police responded to reports of a white Holden Commodore heading north on the New England Highway in a dangerous manner about 7am on Thursday.
After Newcastle-Hunter Traffic & Highway Patrol started a pursuit about five kilometres north of the power station, it is alleged the Commodore's driver lost control.

He was taken to Muswellbrook Hospital for compulsory testing.
Police on Friday confirmed they had charged the 30-year-old with nine offences. They include drive while licence suspended, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle) and possess prohibited drug.
The 30-year-old was formally refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court.
Police said inquiries are ongoing.
