A YOUNG couple who police allege organised a home invasion and attempted kidnapping at Hamlyn Terrace have been refused bail in Newcastle Local Court.

Hayden Brindle, 29, has been charged with 32 serious drug and robbery offences, while 25-year-old Shaylee Cheal has been charged with three offences after a protracted investigation by Central Coast drug squad detectives attached to Strike Force Oldaker.

Mr Brindle is accused of supplying nearly nine kilograms of steroids, 20 counts of supplying a prohibited drug, armed robbery and cause grievous bodily harm, detain person in company with intent to obtain and advantage, knowingly deal in the proceeds of crime and knowingly direct activities of criminal group.

The pair did not enter any pleas when they appeared in Newcastle Local Court via audio visual link from jail on Friday. The matters were adjourned to Gosford Local Court on Monday, when it is understood the pair intend to apply for bail.

Detectives from the Brisbane Water Drug Unit say they established Strike Force Oldaker in October, 2019, to investigate the importation and supply of steroids at Erina and surrounding suburbs.

Two people, a man and a woman, have previously been charged and remain before the courts, police said.

As a result of investigations, detectives began looking into two home invasions at Wamberal on September 17, 2019, and ten days later at Hamlyn Terrace.

Police allege it was about 9.45pm on September 27 when a group of men went to a home at Hamlyn Terrace and assaulted a man, 24 ,outside, before going into the home and attempting to kidnap another person from inside.

They left the scene in a black Holden Commodore a short time later.

Following extensive inquiries, police stopped a vehicle on the Central Coast Highway at West Gosford about 5pm on Thursday and arrested Mr Brindle and Ms Cheal. Police allege the pair organised and "had prior knowledge" of the Hamlyn Terrace home invasion.

Strike Force Oldaker detectives say further arrests are expected.
