POLICE say they expect to lay charges against a woman who failed to stop for a random breath test near Singleton on Boxing Day.
Hunter Valley Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop the woman's Mazda 3 as she travelled northbound on the New England Highway about 9pm.
It is alleged the 45-year-old woman failed to stop as directed and crossed the median strip before police stopped the car a short distance away.
Police further allege they approached the car near the Kennedy Street turn-off before the woman accelerated, narrowly missing another vehicle.
Officers pursued the Mazda before it crashed into a guard rail on the Hunter River bridge near Campbell Street and collided with a Toyota Prado.
The Prado's occupants, a woman and two children aged six and eight, suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Singleton District Hospital but police said they have since been released.
Fire and Rescue NSW freed the 45-year-old woman from the Mazda after she was trapped for a short time.
The woman was arrested and taken to the John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries.
She will undergo mandatory testing and police said they expect to lay charges when she is released from hospital.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
