Charges dropped over alleged threat to TV station

Rachel Scobez.

A woman who was before the courts for allegedly sending threatening messages to a television news outlet has had her charges dropped under the Mental Health Act.

Magistrate Les Brennan dismissed all charges against Argenton woman Rachel Scobez in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.

Ms Scobez faced one count each of using a carriage service to menace, harass and offend as well as stalking or intimidating with the intention to cause fear of physical harm.

The Newcastle Herald reported in December that Ms Scobez pleaded guilty to the charges.

The 26-year-old was accused of sending threatening messages to Channel 10's Facebook account demanding the outlet delete a video of a news item regarding a man who was the subject of a Supreme Court application for continuing detention under the Terrorism (high risk offenders) Act 2017.

Ms Scobez allegedly threatened to slit a random person's throat and said she had the materials to make a bomb.
