Charges dropped against couple accused of criminally neglecting children

The couple's Hillcrest house was inspected by child protection officers.

Criminal neglect charges have been dropped against a couple from Adelaide's north who had their five children taken into state care late last year.

Police arrested the man and woman, now aged 28 and 26, in December and charged them with five counts of criminal neglect.

The charges were laid following an inspection of their Hillcrest home by officers from the Department of Child Protection.

The officers expressed concern for the welfare of the five children, aged between two months and nine years old, living there.

The woman has been on bail since her arrest but the man was remanded in custody because he had 22 prior convictions for breaching bail.

Prosecutors told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday they were no longer proceeding with the charges.
