A man has been refused bail after he was charged over an alleged police pursuit through Newcastle, which ended in a crash.
Police in Hamilton South saw a white Ford Falcon allegedly being driven dangerously about 5.30pm on Wednesday.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle when they spotted it a short time later at Sandgate, but the driver - Joel Christopher Redman - allegedly refused to comply and a pursuit began.
The Falcon crashed into another vehicle before stopping about 20 metres inside marshland - no-one was injured in the crash.
Mr Redman then allegedly fled the scene on foot before he was arrested at Hexham.
He was charged with police pursuit - not stopping - driving dangerously, not obeying the direction of police/authorised person, negligent driving, using an unregistered motor vehicle on the road, using an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and two counts of not giving particulars to another driver.
Mr Redman was denied bail when he faced Newcastle Local Court on Thursday. The matter was adjourned to January 11.
