Charges after man allegedly detained in burning home

A man has been remanded in custody after he allegedly tried to detain a man in a burning house. (Nikki Short/AAP PHOTOS)

A man has been charged after being pulled from a burning house where he was allegedly holding another man captive.

Both men were dragged from the property at Doonside in Sydney's west on Thursday morning.

NSW Police responding to reports of two people arguing broke through the door after finding a damaged vehicle outside, with another on fire in the carport.

The house was also alight as officers separated the two men, pulling them from the burning building.

One of the men, 45, has been refused bail to face Blacktown Local Court on Monday after undergoing treatment for burns to his back.

He has been charged with detain person with intent to obtain advantage, damage property by fire, and destroy or damage property.

Police allege he was detaining a 35-year-old man inside the burning home.

The younger man was taken to hospital and treated for facial injuries.

Police were assessed by paramedics at the scene as firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A Jeep Wrangler with a smashed windscreen was visible at the scene on Thursday morning, with a dog tied to the front of a truck.
