Charges after alleged police threats, attempt to touch live wires

A MAN who crashed into a power pole at Bonnells Bay on Wednesday will face court after allegedly trying to touch live wires after the accident.

Police were called to Princes Street about 4.20pm after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

"We will allege that when we arrived on scene, the man was trying to touch the live wires, refused to provide his New South Wales driver's licence or personal details to investigating officers and threatened to assault the investigating officers," Lake Macquarie police said.

The man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, which allegedly returned a high range reading.

The 36-year-old was charged with drive vehicle high range drink driving, driver refuse to disclose identity, drive whilst licence suspended and resist arrest.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on October 13.

Separately, proactive crime team officers at Morisset surrounded a house in Aldinga Close at Toronto about 12.45pm on Wednesday and arrested a 26-year-old man they allege was hiding at the premises.

Police said he was arrested without incident and conveyed to Toronto police station where was charged with an outstanding warrant, breaching an apprehended violence order, common assault domestic violence related, malicious damage domestic violence related, resist arrest and possession of prohibited drugs.

He is due to face a total of 12 charges in Newcasatle Local Court on Thursday.
