Chargers WR Geremy Davis showing his worth in training camp

The wide receiver position for the Chargers is one of the most monitored battles in training camp. We know that WR Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Travis Benjamin have stamped their roster spots, but the last two or three slots behind them are wide open.

It’s been a tight competition, as nearly every wideout fighting for a job has done something in practices to garner the attention of the coaching staff. But one that has yet to be mentioned is WR Geremy Davis.

“Every time I’m seeing someone make a play, I’m saying, ‘Who’s 11?’ It’s Geremy Davis – he’s been around the team a long time. I should know this, but he sticks around for a reason because he’s always making plays, especially in training camp. He’s so vital for special teams,” per Orange County Register’s Gilbert Manzano.

Davis, who has been a key special teamer since joining the team in 2016, has been proving that he is worthy of receiving more targets from quarterback Philip Rivers this upcoming season.

The former Connecticut product has received snaps as the third receiver, rotating with Benjamin, and has also gotten playing time as the No. 4 option in camp.

Davis appeared in 14 games in 2018, and while he didn’t register a catch, proved to be one of the team’s better blocking wideouts. Davis finished third on the team with 13 tackles on special teams.

The 6-foot-3 and 211 pound Davis fits the mold of the physically-imposing wide receiver that Los Angeles has coveted. Assuming that this is the year the Davis finally gets more targets, he will supply the offense with a decent route runner that makes contested catches in the middle of the field with his extended catch radius.
