Chargers working hard to bring back LB Denzel Perryman for 2019 season

The Chargers will have 13 unrestricted free agents to make a decision on. Among the crop is linebacker Denzel Perryman. Los Angeles is working to retain Perryman, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Although he’s been a key piece to the defense, Perryman has missed 22 regular-season games, most recently suffering a season-ending LCL injury in Week 10 of 2018. The former Miami product was on pace for his first 100-tackle campaign prior to the injury.

The 2015 second round selection should be healthy before training camp in 2019. But Los Angeles will have to determine whether or not they believe he can prove that he’s durable enough of playing a full slate.

Most likely to be a short team ‘prove it’ deal, the 25-year-old might agree to it, as a healthy campaign would set him up for a big pay day down the road. But if he firmly believes that he’s worth more money at the moment, then L.A. will unlikely settle and have him looking for a new team.

Other unrestricted free agent linebackers that the Chargers will look to negotiate with are Kyle Emanuel and Hayes Pullard.
