Chargers vs. Cardinals: First half analysis

The Chargers are currently tied with the Cardinals, 7-7 at the halfway mark.

There have been a few key takeaways from the first half of the preseason opener:

  • Quarterback Tyrod Taylor came out ready to play in his debut as a Charger. Taylor went 6 for 6 with 72 yards passing and 34 yards rushing.
  • QB Cardale Jones looked very uncomfortable.
  • Running back Austin Ekeler received the majority of the snaps and made the most them, rushing for 40 yards on five carries, also showing to be a threat through the air, posting three catches for 29 yards.
  • The first-team offensive line looked very promising in the run-blocking department. The unit struggled a bit when keeping pressure off the quarterback in the second quarter.
  • Wide receivers Artavis Scott and Geremy Davis only had one target in the first half. Scott dropped his only target from Jones.
  • The pass-rushers have looked really good, generating a lot of pressure on QB Brett Hundley. Isaac Rochell and Anthony Lanier each have a sack. UDFA Chris Peace is playing like he wants to be a part of the 53-man roster.

The Cardinals receive to start the second half.
