Chargers’ undrafted rookie’s time to shine

In a six-week span, the Chargers have lost two of their top wide receivers. First, Dontrelle Inman was placed on the injured reserve with a quad injury. Now, Travis Benjamin landed on the IR with the same injury on Wednesday.

The loss of the two wideouts leaves more opportunity for Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hunter Henry and a player that is bound to breakout with more opportunities.

WR Jason Moore, the undrafted rookie out of Findlay University, will have his shot to make an impact after the injuries to Benjamin and Inman.

Moore, an offseason standout, failed to make the active roster, but he was added to the practice squad. He got the call up to the 53-man roster when Andre Patton was unable to play in last weekend’s contest against the Steelers.

Moore only played five snaps, but he made the most of them, reeling in both of his targets for 43 yards. His short, yet sweet performance left a lot of people wanting him to see the field more often.

He will now have his shot.

The 6-foot-3 and 213 pound wide receiver gives quarterback Philip Rivers an enticing target, who has a ton of upside. With his rare blend of size, athletic ability and long speed, he can be a threat at all three levels of defense.

With offensive tackle Russell Okung back in the starting lineup, this will allow Rivers more time to distribute the ball and give Moore, along with his other weapons an opportunity to flourish.
