Chargers’ Tyrod Taylor compares Hunter Henry to former Ravens TE

Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is one of the top players at his position in the league, and in the eyes of quarterback Tyrod Taylor, he compares to another player who was prolific at tight end.

Taylor, who spoke with the media following practice on Monday, likened Henry to former Ravens TE Dennis Pitta.

“He’s very special. He reminds me of Pitta. The savviness, the catching ability, the route running. He reminds me a lot of (Pitta). Pitta was big for us in Baltimore. Hunter will be big for us here in L.A,” Taylor said, per the Orange County Register’s Gilbert Manzano.

Taylor and Pitta played together in Baltimore for four seasons (2011-2014). Pitta was easily one of the top pass-catching tight ends during that time, but a series of hip injuries ultimately ended his career.

It’s easy to see why Taylor compared the two. Like Pitta, Henry consistently gains separation through route running and reliably produces in the short-to-intermediate passing game. He has some of the surest hands in the league at his position, and he can make contested catches. Through two seasons, the Arkansas product has posted 85 receptions for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns.
