Chargers showing interest in Rice OT Justin Gooseberry

Fortifying the offensive line has been a focal point for the Chargers this offseason.

The team signed guard Trai Turner and tackles Bryan Bulaga and Storm Norton. However, it’s unlikely that the work stops there.

With the draft coming up next week, it’s likely Los Angeles will look to bring in one, two or maybe three guys from what’s considered a strong positional class.

According to Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, the Bolts are showing interest in former Rice offensive tackle Justin Gooseberry.

Prior to joining the Owls, he was a three-year starter at Division-II Ouachita Baptist, earning First-Team All-American status and First-Team All-GAC twice.

At Rice for his one-year stint, Gooseberry started 11 games at right tackle, earning Honorable Mention All-Conference USA (CUSA).

Gooseberry, the 6-foot-3 and 287 pounder needs strength work, but he is athletic and he possesses adequate movement skills in space that would make out to be a swing tackle or guard in a zone scheme at the next level.

Gooseberry currently projects as a sixth or seventh-round selection.
