Chargers’ Shane Steichen talks about taking over offense

Chargers new offensive play-caller, Shane Steichen talked at media availability on Thursday, addressing the transition from being the quarterbacks coach to the one calling the shots.

“It’s been smooth. Coach Lynn was in this position a couple of years ago. We’ve had a great relationship. Me and him have been talking through some things and it’s been pretty good,” Steichen said.

Steichen didn’t really give much detail what to expect with him calling the plays, but he emphasized some of the problems and the major need to keeping it from being one-sided, like it has been in previous weeks.

“You got to stay on the field as much as we can. We had some three-and-outs the past couple of weeks. I think we just got to continue to stay on the field and try to be as productive as we can. You got to get first downs, you got to have a little rhythm. Rhythm mixing the run and pass.

Be more balanced as much as we can. Not saying that we weren’t. I think some of those games the last couple of weeks, we were in some situations where we had to throw a little more than run it. So, be as much balanced as we can and go from there,” Steichen said.

Steichen will look to turn things around this weekend against a Packers defense that ranks close to the bottom of the league, allowing 251.8 passing yards per game and 123.8 rushing yards per game.
