Chargers’ Russell Okung set to return Thursday

Some great news!

Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung is returning to the team and will start practicing Thursday.

Okung announced on his official Twitter account that he could return as early as this week, but shortly after, Los Angeles’ official account tweeted out that he will return today.

The team also restructured Okung’s contract. His pay was reduced when he was on the non-football illness list, making just $2 million in the six weeks he missed.

Los Angeles will pay him $1 million per week to get him to the $13 million he was slated to make. If he’s not active this weekend, his signing bonus will make up the difference.

Okung was placed on the reserve list after suffering a pulmonary embolism over the summer.

Getting Okung back will be a huge boost to an offensive line that has been struggling the past few weeks.

Trent Scott, who’s been filling in for Okung at left tackle, is currently rated as the 70th-best tackle out of 73 in the league, per Pro Football Focus.

Even though he’s starting practice today, his status for this weekend’s contest against the Titans is unknown.

Nonetheless, it’ll be a big upgrade for the offensive side of the ball to have Okung back in the starting lineup.
