Philip Rivers is not pushing a trade to the San Francisco 49ers or anywhere else, he said Tuesday.
The Chargers quarterback was asked about two reports on Twitter saying he was not happy with the team's move to Los Angeles and was seeking a trade to San Francisco.
The second of the reports said Rivers wanted to have say in who the 49ers hired as their general manager and coach.
There are a couple things to consider, in addition to Rivers' specific denial.
First, he has a no-trade clause he would have to waive.
"That was put in there to avoid anything like this situation," Rivers said from Los Angeles, where was preparing to tape a segment on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," scheduled to air Tuesday night.
Second, Rivers has repeatedly expressed excitement about the Chargers' young talent and is committed to the organization for at least the next three years. Despite reservations about uprooting his family and leaving San Diego, he signed a contract extension before the 2015 season that runs through '19.
Rivers not being aware of any trade rumors does not preclude the Chargers from shopping him, but he could veto any deal. The Chargers would be aware he is almost certain to decline any such deal with the 49ers, who won just two games in 2016.
On his way to the Kimmel set Tuesday, Rivers began a preliminary exploration of various Orange County neighborhoods. The Chargers will practice in Costa Mesa, Calif.
