Chargers QB Justin Herbert named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year, becoming the team’s first player to win it since wide receiver Keenan Allen in 2013.

After QB Tyrod Taylor was ruled out prior to the Week 2 matchup against the Chiefs with a punctured lung, Herbert gave no reason to resort back to him upon returning.

Herbert threw for 4336 yards and 31 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He also recorded 5 touchdowns rushing. Along the way, he broke multiple records.

Herbert won the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week award nine times in 2020, tying Ben Roethlisberger for the most since 2004.

Herbert beat out Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The other finalists were Jaguars running back James Robinson, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

Herbert is the current favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, which is recognized by the league.
