Chargers QB Easton Stick is the player to watch vs. Cardinals

There won’t be any Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in the preseason opener against the Cardinals. It’s unlikely that Tyrod Taylor will receive much playing time, either. This means that fourth-year Cardale Jones and rookie Easton Stick will be seeing the field plenty.

We’ve gotten a glimpse at Jones the past two preseasons and know what to expect out of him. For Stick, we’ve seen what he has displayed the past four months and there’s plenty of reasons to be excited for the former North Dakota State product tonight and beyond.

Stick was praised by the coaching staff for his high football IQ and winning mentality when he was drafted. He has quickly picked up the team’s offense and has showcased early flashes of a player that could develop into a very reliable long-term backup or even a starter down the road.

There may be some growing pains here and there as he makes his professional debut, but look for Stick to look in control of the offense, display his athleticism, deliver well on the move and thrive in the short to intermediate parts of the field.
