Chargers promote safety Shalom Luani, waive CB Tevaughn Campbell

The Los Angeles Chargers made a roster move ahead of Sunday’s Week 9 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

The Chargers waived cornerback Tevaughn Campbell. In a corresponding move to fill the vacated spot, the team called up safety Shalom Luani from the practice squad.

Los Angeles is thin at the safety position as is, but Roderic Teamer is listed as doubtful for tomorrow’s game due to a groin injury.

Jaylen Watkins will likely get the start at strong safety, but expect to see Luani mix in with Watkins and play special teams.

Luani played for the Raiders and the Seahawks prior to joining the Chargers. He saw time on the field, but primarily served as a special teamer. He’s a heady player with the instincts, quickness, ball skills and aggressive nature to make plays at both safety spots.
