Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been supporting a certain hat for quite sometime.
Those who watch Rivers’ media availabilities will notice it. It says “Nunc Coepi” across the front. The veteran quarterback is spotted nearly every time wearing it when he has a hat on.
The team’s official Twitter account appeared to have some fun with going through a variety of photos to show exactly how often Rivers is found rocking it.
After spending some time, the members who run the account finally found a photo of Rivers wearing a different hat. But the hat still had his favorite slogan on it.
Rivers explained what “Nunc Coepi” meant and the effect it had had on his life during an ESPN interview last season.
“It means ‘now I begin. It’s kind of that never-ending beginning. It’s beginning again and again and again. As a quarterback, it’s play-to-play. You’re always starting again whether it’s good or bad. We use it at home. If you asked any of my children what’s dad’s favorite phrase, they would be right on it,” Rivers said.
Rivers is easily one of the most passionate players, and will go down as one of the better quarterbacks to play the game. It’s no surprise that he is fond with the phrase so much because its motivating meaning has helped him continue to produce at such a high level even though he’s getting up there in age.
