Chargers’ Players of the Game in Week 12 vs. Bills

The Chargers suffered defeat to the Bills on Sunday, 27-17.

While it’s hard to make out any good from the loss, there were still a few players that stood out.

Let’s take a look at who’s deserving of this week’s awards:

Offensive Player of the Game: RB Austin Ekeler

Ekeler hasn’t seen the field in eight weeks due to a hamstring injury, but he didn’t look like he lost a step in his return. He carried the ball 14 times for 44 yards, and caught 11 balls on 16 targets for 85 yards. Prior to the game, coach Anthony Lynn made it seem like Ekeler was going to be on a limited snap count, but he had 25 touches, which he made the most of each one.

Defensive Player of the Game: EDGE Joey Bosa

Bosa enjoyed himself arguably one of the best performances of his career up to this point. Going up against rookie Daryl Williams, the 25-year old was nearly unblockable. Bosa had eight tackles, three sacks, five quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, a pass defensed and a fumble recovery. This was all without his partner-in-crime, Melvin Ingram, who was out with an injury.

Special Teams Player of the Game: N/A

Even after the Chargers promoted assistants Keith Burns and Chris Caminiti to take over as special teams coordinators, there were still woes all across the board, including kicker Michael Badgley missing his eighth kick of the season. On top of that, the kick and punt return coverage continued to allow hefty gains while the team’s returners struggled to gain much positive yardage.
