Chargers place original-round tender on CB Trevor Williams

The Chargers have placed the original-round tender on restricted free agent cornerback Trevor Williams.

The original-round tender will cost Los Angeles $2.025 million for the 2019 season and will give them the opportunity to match any offers that Williams receives from other clubs.

The Chargers signed Williams after he went undrafted out of Penn State in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Bolts signed him to a three-year, $1.62 million contract.

The former Nittany Lion found himself on the practice squad after he didn’t make the 53-man roster that year. He was then promoted to the active roster after CB Jason Verrett had a season-ending injury.

Williams worked his way into a starting position in 2017 and held it until his 2018 campaign was short lived after dealing with knee injury, which ultimately landed him on the injured reserve.

Considering the inexpensive price tag it’d take to pull him away from L.A., it wouldn’t be surprising if he is playing elsewhere in 2019, especially knowing that the team would be able to land another one for cheap in free agency or in the NFL draft.
