He tore his anterior cruciate ligament Sunday in the second quarter of a 33-27 overtime loss to the Chiefs and was placed on injured reserve, coach Mike McCoy announced Monday. The team activated defensive end Joey Bosa to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move.
Bosa may not be able to help the Chargers this Sunday in Jacksonville.
It'd be a lot to ask, after all, of a rookie coming off a hamstring strain with no padded practices under his belt _ and just one practice total since June 8. McCoy reaffirmed Monday that Bosa is "day to day."
Allen caught six passes for 63 yards in Kansas City.
