Chargers pick up fifth-year option on EDGE Joey Bosa

The Chargers are getting ready for the 2019 NFL draft Thursday, but first, they decided to lock in their former 2016 first-round selection in defensive end Joey Bosa for two more seasons, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The decision to lock him up through the 2020 campaign was a no-brainer as he’s been a dominant force in the trenches. Him and his teammate Melvin Ingram have been a formidable duo, and the defense is better day and night, when they’re on the field.

Bosa is set to make $720,000 in base salary this season as part of a four-year, $25.9 million contract he signed.

The former Ohio State product had 10.5 sacks in his first season, winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and followed that up with a more productive sophomore season, amassing 12.5 sacks and earning Pro Bowl honors in 2017.

Bosa missed nine games in 2018 after a foot injury, but still managed to finish the year with 5.5 sacks.
