Chargers’ Philip Rivers reflects on 2018: ‘Could’ve gone undefeated or 6-10’

The Chargers had a successful 2018 season, going 12-4, which was tied with the Chiefs for the best record in the AFC.

After dealing with consecutive years of bad luck, resulting in close games that went against their favor, Los Angeles finally broke out and emerged as one of the top teams in the NFL.

Even though the majority of last season was sunshine and rainbows, quarterback Philip Rivers believes that it could’ve gone a lot better — but also a lot worse.

“We could have won them all. Like, we could have gone undefeated. We could have. And we also could have gone 6-10,” Rivers told XTRA 1360’s Jon Schaeffer.

What Rivers is ultimately saying is that the majority of NFL games are close and require one big play here and there in order to come out on top, and the statement is 100 percent valid.

The Chargers are no stranger to playing in close games, coming up short because of injuries, miscues or missed game-winning field goals in recent seasons. That wasn’t the case last year, as three of the losses came by 10 or more points. Those losses were simply due to being outplayed fair and square. They finally started to come together and put the pieces together after getting the label of having the worst luck.

Coach Anthony Lynn’s team ended the nine-game losing streak to the Chiefs and defeated the Steelers, Ravens and Seahawks on their home turf, which wouldn’t have happened in the previous few seasons.

Now that Los Angeles has shown that they’re capable of beating some of the league’s best and they possess one of the most stacked rosters heading into the 2019 campaign, they’re eager to make it past the AFC divisional round for the first time since the 2007 season.
