Chargers open up 2019 season as 7-point favorites over Colts

The Los Angeles Chargers (0-0) open up the 2019 regular season with a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts (0-0) at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Bolts are currently listed as seven-point favorites against the Colts, per SportsBook Wire.

Back in April, L.A. was only 3.5-point favorites, but that changed quickly after quarterback Andrew Luck announced his retirement.

Even though the Chargers are heavily favorited, the matchup will not be a gimme. Indianapolis has quickly turned into one of the better teams in the AFC conference since general manager Chris Ballard took over in 2017.

The Colts finished the 2018 season with a 10-6 record, which earned them a trip to the playoffs. They won their Wild Card matchup against the Texans, but came up short against the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round.

Even though Indianapolis won’t have Luck under center, Jacoby Brissett has proven himself in the starting role when the former Stanford product missed the 2017 season with a shoulder injury.

The Colts possess one of the best offensive lines and their defense is stout, too.

Meanwhile, the Chargers boast one of the most balanced rosters in the NFL, but they will be without three of their top players — safety Derwin James, running back Melvin Gordon and offensive tackle Russell Okung.

Los Angeles will look to make a deeper run this upcoming season after coming up short in the AFC Divisional Round, and their road to the Super Bowl all starts on Sunday.
