The Buffalo Bills released guard Quinton Spain on Wednesday.
The release of Spain drew the attention Chargers fans, knowing that Los Angeles’ offensive line struggled in the first few weeks without guard Trai Turner and tackle Bryan Bulaga.
The curiosity of L.A. having any interest in bringing in Spain was brought up at today’s media availability, as coach Anthony Lynn was asked if the team would consider signing him.
Lynn said the Chargers are “open” to looking into Spain. But he also added he’s comfortable with the offensive line depth until Turner and Bulaga return.
Turner and Bulaga’s return to the field remains to be seen. Lynn said the two “aren’t there yet.”
Signing Spain would be a smart move because he could fill in at the right guard spot, where there has been lackluster production from both backups Ryan Groy and Tyree St. Louis.
Groy has a Pro Football Focus grade of 54.1. He’s allowed 10 quarterback pressures and three hits. Meanwhile, St. Louis hasn’t done any better. He has a PFF grade of 37.7.
Spain, 29, has exemplified dominance as a pass protector. In 2019, Spain allowed zero sacks while with Buffalo.
