Chargers might have something in center Scott Quessenberry

The Chargers were hit with another injury last Sunday when guard Forrest Lamp went down with an ankle injury. So what did that mean? Next man up.

Los Angeles turned to Scott Quessenberry to fill in at center, while Dan Feeney slid over to left guard to replace Lamp in the second quarter.

Quessenberry played in 59 percent of the offensive snaps, and looked like the best offensive lineman on the afternoon. Against a stout Titans defensive line, he was superior at slowing down their pass rush.

Quarterback Philip Rivers had plenty of opportunities where he wasn’t as rushed to get the ball off and a lot of that had to do because there wasn’t much pressure compared to previous weeks, especially from the inside.

Quessenberry wasn’t overwhelming defenders in the run game, but he was technically sound, tough and consistent in pass protection, which helped allow Rivers to have a decent game.

Quessenberry, the La Costa native, grew up as a Chargers fan. He wears the number that former Charger great Nick Hardwick wore in No. 61 in hopes to have a big impact on the team that he’s always supported.

Sitting behind center Mike Pouncey the past two seasons, the injuries that have hampered Los Angeles’ offensive line gives Quessenberry that opportunity for the rest of the 2019 season.

Coach Anthony Lynn said that he hasn’t decided if Quessenberry or newly acquired Ryan Groy will get start against the Bears, but we feel the former UCLA product did enough this past weekend to get that role.
